I always get the portable charger when I get a camera that does not come with one. They save alot of time and headaches. Easy to travel with. It is also great to throw a spare battery on to charge in a hurry (I can honestly say, I dont think I ever used the power cord from my old camera.)
It also shaves 50 min off the recharge time for the standard battery, even more for the extended battery.

Very exciting. It comes in a large red box. The charger is small and should be easy to store while traveling. I don’t understand why Canon does not include this with the camera. Well I do know, more money selling it by itself. A very useful item to have. Very expensive for what it is but what choice do you have. 5 stars for design of it but it loses a star for the price.

Review by J. Slafter for Rating: The battery that came with my Dell laptop (Inspiron 1525) finally died after two years, and I was not about to spend big bucks on an official Dell replacement. This 9 cell battery works well! I have followed some of the suggestions made by others, like charging the battery fully and then letting it run most of the way down before recharging. If I’m just browsing the web, working in Word or Excel, or messing around with photos, I usually get close to four hours of battery life. Playing games drains it much faster. I suspect I’m losing battery capacity a little quicker than I did with my factory battery…I’ve only had this one a couple months and it seems like I lose a few minutes each time I charge it – could be my imagination, but that’s why I gave it only four stars. It does stick out an extra inch beyond the back of my laptop, but it’s not that big of a deal. Overall, it’s a good battery at a reasonable price.

I suggested notebook owners factor that cost of ownership into their notebook purchase, much like car owners factor in normal maintenance, tires, and gasoline into the cost of ownership of their car. If people's tires wear out after 2 years, I don't see them writing bad reviews of their Ford. I do see people writing bad reviews about their Dell when their battery gives out after 2 years though. I don't think it's very fair.One thing I did notice when learning about batteries is that the more these batteries are used, the longer they tend to last. If a Li-Ion battery is constantly at 100% charge, it degrades faster. That may explain why you've had such good luck, and why most people's batteries degrade faster than yours. Who knows, though. I don't claim to be a chemist
